Harris Primary Mayflower is Awarded Model School Status!

On Tuesday 28th February, Harris Primary Academy Mayflower celebrated becoming a Read Write Inc Model School. We had a whole school celebration day with the theme of Alice in Wonderland.

All of the adults and children were dressed up and our school was decorated for the day by our children. We were incredibly fortunate to have Ruth Miskin join us for this very special day. She spoke with our parents, governors and staff at a special assembly about the importance of reading to children every day and how they can support their children’s reading at home.

Some of our very talented Year 1 and Year 2 children read an excerpt from Alice in Wonderland to the assembly! Ruth then opened our brand new school library, which we have put together through donations of books from parents and our school community. The adults and children were treated to a Mad Hatter’s Tea party for lunch where are wonderful Chef David, had created heart shaped cakes and jam sandwiches.

The teachers who spent lunch time with Ruth were very inspired by having the opportunity to talk with her. Ruth Miskin later donated a box full of books for our new library which our children will enjoy reading for years to come.
