Although the weather was still extremely cold last Friday, it was time for the first athletics event of the year to get underway. Sportshall Athletics is designed to allow children to take part in athletics events during the winter months by hosting them inside. There are various track events including sprints, obstacle relays, sprint relays and endurance events, as well as track events, such as the vertical jump, chest push, foam javelin, triple jump and standing long jump. The Year 5 and 6 children were determined to beat last year’s result and had the aim of reaching the top three. Children wanted to use their lunchtimes to train to ensure they were fully prepared - their determination is simply fantastic. The children have such high standards of themselves and continue to ask on how their performances can be improved, which is great to see. Twenty-one schools took part in probably the most attended event of the year and Harris Mayflower finished in an extremely impressive 2nd place. This is a remarkable achievement and the children who attended the event did the academy proud. We have so many talented children at Harris Mayflower and we are proud of every single one of you - well done!
