Mola Art in Year 5
Mola, which originally meant bird plumage, is the Kuna Indian word for clothing, specifically blouse. The word 'mola' has come to mean the elaborate embroidered panels that make up the front and back of a Kuna woman's traditional blouse. This term in year 5, we will be creating artwork inspired by the Mola Art.
In our first lesson this week, we learnt the origins of mola art and their significance to the Kuna people. Our task was to make a paper mola. Children sketched out a design to be used as a stencil and ensured their design is inspired by mola art. They kept their design simple and used very little details to keep it effective.
