Amazing curriculum 'hook' days
Our Mayflower pupils had a wonderful time on Monday taking part in the curriculum 'hook' days across the academy.
Reception pupils explored their 'Once upon a time' theme, all coming dressed as a character from The Gingerbread Man. Over the holiday, the children made a character puppet which the teachers have displayed in the classrooms. The children then baked gingerbread men and pretended to be the fox and gobbled the gingerbread man up!
In Year 1 pupils had a wonderful day as part of their Kings and Queens day. All the children came dressed up and across the day took part in a range of activities culminating in a ball that was held in the afternoon.
In Year 2 pupils explored their current Great Fire of London topic by experiencing a day as they would in 1666. The children washed clothes, practised sewing, chopped vegetables for soup and baked bread and wrote in ink pens.
In Year 3 pupils experienced life as a Victorian school child and our teachers acted in role being teachers in the Victorian times. The pupils wrote on slateboards and practised handwriting amongst many other activities. As in the Victorian times they were expected to work in silence. The adults and children were certainly pleased to return to the present day on Tuesday!
