Getting ready for school
The first day of the new term will be Monday September 8th 2014. We are very much looking forward to welcoming your sons and daughters and making sure their transition to school is happy and successful. To ensure that your child makes as calm and positive a start to their school life as possible, we have arranged a staggered start for all pupils, beginning with half day attendance for the first two weeks, building to full time attendance by week three of term.
When you arrive with your child, remembering that school starts at 8.55am, please come to the main entrance of the Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred on Mayflower Road. The Harris Primary Academy Mayflower building is on the left hand side as you come through the gate and it is signed with a purple entrance sign. Your child’s teacher will be there to welcome you and your child into school.
You are encouraged to stay and settle your child by playing with them for a 10-15 minute slot each day, before you slip away leaving them engrossed in their learning. This will help the transition into school and ensure that you understand how their day is structured and how the learning environment is organised. After a short while, somewhere between three days and two weeks, depending on the child, this should no longer be required. If your child is distressed then sometimes it is more helpful to leave the room as quickly as possible and again our staff will be more than happy to take care of your child if this happens and you must not feel awkward.
