Traditional Tales at Mayflower
This term we have hit the ground running with our fabulous topic on Traditional Tales, each room has been assigned a different tale, the Three Little Pigs in the Bears room, The three Billy Goats Gruff in the Owls room and The Gingerbread man in the Dolphins room. The children have enjoyed listening to different traditional tales and can be found acting out the stories inside the class and outside.
The children have been learning how stories are structured, using Story Mountains and sequencing activities. They have describing the characters from the story and even wrote a letter to the wolf to ask him to fill the pigs bucket by helping them to build a new house instead of blowing their houses down. The children were very happy when the wolf wrote back and said that from now on he will be a “bucket filler”.
All the children readily engaged in the various maths based learning activities, in particular they have found 3D shape lessons very exciting. They had been learning about the various 3D shapes and spent a lot of time building 3D shapes outside ranging from cubes to triangular prisms.
