Harris Sports Day Winners!
It has been a few years since we attended our first Harris Federation Athletics Competition, but we felt we were ready. The children had won the Thurrock Borough Athletics competition the previous week with some outstanding individual performances. The children competed against seven other schools and they didn't hold back. They were determined to win and the togetherness was wonderful to see. They cheered every race, met their teammates at the finish line and were proud of each and every one of their team. The children returned with medal after medal, and were eventual Track Events winners, Field Events winners, and overall winners. The second consecutive win in this competition! Next was Harris Federation Athletics Competition. The events were reduced and didn't necessarily suit us as athletes however we were not phased. We got off to a shaky start however the pupils began to show their quality in their long-distance events with some incredible performances. This energy was contagious and there was a new confidence around the team. More medals were being won; children battled to the very end and personal bests in track and field events were broken. Mayflower were the team to beat which only made it harder for the children, however they were up for the fight. The results were given (a special mention for the Year 5 and Year 6 boys for both winning their categories) and Harris Mayflower were the overall winners. A simply outstanding achievement from all the children who attended - bring on the next competition!
