Black History Month
Black History Month was introduced 1926 in America by a man named Carter G Woodford and in the UK the first Black History Month was introduced in 1987. Black History Month reflects on the achievements, cultures and contributions of black people in the UK and across the world.
Here at Mayflower we will be celebrating and learning about Black History Month in a range of ways. Each year group will learn about a black inventor, a black musician or band and a black sports person. They will learn about their history and why they are influential in their field. It will be great for our Mayflower families at home to engage our children in discussions and ask them about their learning during this time. As an academy we continue to review our curriculum, texts and events and this year in Autumn 2 the PHSCE unit of work all pupils will study is focussed on Identity.
